Third Grade A To Z Mystery Challenge

To finish out the school year with a reading focus, each year I issue an A to Z Mystery challenge to my third graders.  The goal is to read each of the books in Ron Roy's A to Z mystery series.  The kiddos below met that goal and were invited to a mystery party.  When they came to the library for the reading celebration, they found that they needed to answer clues based on the A to Z mysteries and books in our library in order to open the box with the party inside!  Each of those nine pieces of tape could only be removed if the clue was solved.  I am happy to say they did it!

A to Z Mystery Challenge

Each year, Lewis and Clark 3rd graders are challenged to read all 26 books in the A to Z mystery series written by Ron Roy. This year, thirty two 3rd graders completed the challenge. We celebrated with a mystery party! This is a great end of the year challenge to keep the kiddos reading right up to the end. These books are right on grade level and help improve reading fluency.

Mystery Readers 2010

Wow, forty five 3rd graders met my challenge to read ALL 26 A to Z Mysteries written by Ron Roy. We celebrated with a mystery party...the kids didn't know the day or time of the party. I can't reveal anything else or it won't be a mystery for next year's readers. Way to be independent readers !

Why are these girls reading so intently...

...they are on a mission! The Annual Lewis and Clark 3rd Grade A to Z Mystery Challenge has begun! From now until May 24th any third grader may elect to read all 26 A to Z Mysteries by Ron Roy. It is amazing to see kids reading while taking a bathroom break and even while waiting to be picked up after school. Kids who complete the challenge are invited to a MYSTERY PARTY at the end of the school year. The time, place, and treat at the party is also mystery:). So, third grade, keep reading and responding to those books!

WOW! Tons Of Mystery Readers!

Over 70 third grade students read all of Ron Roy's A to Z mysteries and answered a question about each book. Those kiddo took my challenge and read for over a month and a half! We celebrated last week with a mystery party. The readers had to solve clues to find their snack. We had a great time. I loved seeing kids reading an A to Z mystery while waiting for their rides, while waiting for bathroom breaks to be done, and spending our school wide SSR time reading toward a lofty goal.
