Visiting Author Deborah Hopkinson

We had a great visit from this year's visiting author, Deborah Hopkinson.  Thanks to our amazing PTA, we were able to have 4 sessions with this fabulous non-fiction/historical fiction author.  We learned so much and LOVE her books!

Balance

I try to maintain a balance of reading, making, and thinking in our library.  For about 2 weeks earlier this month, we were definitely heavy on reading!  We were getting ready for visiting author Henry Cole to rock our world!  If you are a teacher or librarian, I HIGHLY suggest looking into having him visit your school. He is a true gentleman, extremely entertaining, wonderful with kids and adults, and has so much to say about the writing process. I had several parents comment that their kids came home talking about him and kids are still asking for his books.  This is the second time we have had him at LC and again he amazed us.  In preparation for his visit, we read his books, examined his art, watched video interviews and even tried to recreate chickens in his honor!   Thank you Lewis and Clark PTA for supporting the love of literature!

Visiting Author, Mary Casanova

Lewis and Clark welcomed Mary Casanova to our school on Monday, March 7th.  Mary is a lovely gal who gives an amazing, high energy presentation to all grade levels.  My little kiddos love Some Dog , Some Cat , and One Dog Canoe .  My older kids are all clamoring for Klipfish Code, a book about WWII in Norway.  So many kids wanted her books, that we sent out a 2nd order after her visit. A gigantic thank you to the LC PTA for supporting this valuable experience for our students and staff.  Thanks for a great day Mary Casanova! Experiencing Henry Cole

On Friday, March 13th, thirteen 5th graders who had read all twelve 2014-2015 Mark Twain Nominees experienced an amazing author visit.  Author and illustrator Henry Cole amazed us all with his amazing storytelling skills, drawing expertise, and comical relief!  What a great event to end the week!  Way to read kiddos!

Dean Pitchford Author Visit

Author Dean Pitchford had my students on the edge of their seats as he shared his books!  What an amazing storyteller.  We were all so starstruck by this talented gentleman before he came and by the end of his visit, we were so excited about his books that they were all checked out by the beginning of the next day.  If you don't recognize his name, check out his website !  Here is a hint to the genius of this man...he wrote Footloose!!!   Thanks Dean for the fabulous visit and a very pleasant dinner.

Visiting Author, Ann Ingalls

Author Ann Ingalls visited LC and talked to our kindergarten and first grade kiddos. Thank you PTA for this oppportunity to share yet another great experience with our LC students.

Fabulous Fifth Grade Readers!

Today, 24 fifth graders were rewarded for their dedication to reading! They spent the morning skyping with author Kate McMullen and meeting Roland Smith in person...what a presentation he has. The fifth grade kiddos earned this event by reading all twelve 2011-2012 Mark Twain nominees. Way to go! Upon arriving back at school, we enjoyed pizza and brownies for lunch and reflected on our morning. Huge thank you to Mrs. Arth (AD librarian) and Andrea Sumy (Director of Library Media Services) for organizing the event and making it all possible. Comments from our morning... "I loved listening to how the authors got inspired to write and how they got started." "Today was totally AWESOME. I loved the authors and I got good advice from cool authors." "I learned that it might take a long time to make a book, but it is worth it." "I loved seeing famous people in person." "It was great listening to Roland Smith because he was ...
