Second and Third Grade Reading Adventure Night

Twenty one years ago, I planned a Reading Adventure Night for 1 credit hour toward my Master's Degree. Every year since I have planned and pulled off a night attended by over 100 kiddos. I have tons of support from Mrs. Haynes and the staff, administration and PTA of Lewis and Clark...couldn't do it without them. From 4:00-7:30pm kids have a snack, travel to four activity rooms, listen to our favorite storyteller, Mr. Haynes, and have pizza for dinner.  Check out our photos from this year's event...

2016 Reading Adventure Night

This photo sums up how our kids feel about Reading Adventure Night! Photo Credit:  Eric Haynes This is our 22nd (I think) Reading Adventure Night that we have had at Lewis and Clark.  We have made some changes over the years.  We used to host two nights; one for 1st and 2nd grade and another for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.  For the last 2 years we have streamlined the event to one evening for 2nd and 3rd graders.  We start the evening right after school on a Friday and stay until 7:30pm.  We have snacks, pizza, listen to a storyteller, and participate in 4 different activity rooms.  The activities are purely fun...book title Pictionary, making bookmarks, miniature golf book discussions, and reading.   This night ABSOLUTELY could not happen without MANY volunteers! Parents send in all the food/paper items needed, teachers run the rooms, administrators stay late, PTA pays for pizza and room materials, and Mrs. Haynes does all the organiz...

Reading Night 2015

Lewis and Clark's Annual Reading Adventure Nights

Each year I host two Reading Adventure Nights...one for 1st and 2nd grade and one for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. This year nearly 300 students stayed until 7:30 on two Friday nights to participate. During the evening, the kiddos went to five activity rooms, enjoyed a snack and pizza dinner, and listened to an amazing storyteller. A HUGE thank you goes out to parents who provided the paper products, soda, juice, and cookies for the night. Another HUGE shout out to the parent volunteers who helped organize the snacks and those who served pizza and drinks. Also, HUGE thanks to the LC staff members who stayed the night and volunteered their time running the classroom activities. Last, but surely not least, HUGE thanks to our LC PTA who pays for our storyteller and pizza...the big expenses of the evening. I could not offer these evenings without the help of ALL these groups.

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade Reading Adventure Night

WOW! 170 third, fourth, and fifth grade students stayed after school until 7:30pm on Friday, February 11th to participate in our annual Reading Adventure Night! The kids participated in 5 different activities, listened to an amazing storyteller, and enjoyed pizza. Huge thanks go out to Mr. Palmer and Mr. Nelson for staying during the evening and helping throughout. I so appreciate all the staff members who ran an activity room, the parents who served snacks and pizza, the families who sent in donations, and our FABULOUS LC PTA for financially supporting the evening. I also wish to give a HUGE shoutout to Ray at CiCi's Pizza for giving us a great deal and delivering all 56 pizzas to us! We all had a blast...the evidence is below!

Reading Adventure Night

We had a blast at our annual Reading Adventure Night for first and second graders. We traveled to four activity rooms, had a snack, listened to a storyteller who kept the kids' attention better than any video came could, and enjoyed pizza from CiCi's! Thank you PTA for supporting this event and special thanks to all the families who donated their time or supplies to help the evening go smoothly. Good Times! Good Books!
