Landmark 2013 Results...

I hope everyone is enjoying their Spring Break.  I received the results of  Landmark Game 2013...we tied for fourth place!  Way to go 4th and 5th grade researchers.  We will go over the results when we get back to school next week!

Landmark 2012

Well, another year of Landmark excitement is under our belts. We had a great learning experience with the game this year. For the first time in a long time, we had two teams...a fourth grade team and a fifth grade team. I will NOT do that again...it was an organizational nightmare. Plus I found that we all work together better as one big team. I witnessed competition between grade levels, and did not like what it was doing to our school community. In the end, our fourth grade team tied for 8th place and our 5th grade team tied for 7th place. Way to go Lewis and Clark learners! Check out what we learned below... "I learned new sites and how timelines work." "I learned how to do a split screen and could look up two things at once to compare." "I learned how to face a problem and not back down from a challenge." "I learned that you can learn and have fun at the same time." "I learned to search using key words in the clues." I lear...
Landmark Game 2011 results are in...Lewis and Clark tied for third place among 18 other teams. Way to go researchers. Hats off to Shoal Creek for placing second and Warren Hills for joining us in third place. It is going to be hard to wait another year for Landmark 2012...it is such a great learning experience for our 4th and 5th graders.
Landmark 2011 is coming to an end. We have worked so hard solving the 19 landmarks from schools all over the world. We have used encyclopedias, globes, atlases, dictionaries, databases, online encyclopedia's, KidRex and other Internet search engines. We used our prior knowledge and have built a new knowledge base about the landmarks and the countries they are located in. Our guesses will be sent in on Friday, March 18th. Soon we will know if our hard work paid off!

Landmark 2010 Results!

Woo Hoo! Lewis and Clark placed 2nd among 26 other teams from around the world in the Landmark Game 2010. We are really excited about being one of the top teams. Most importantly, we are really pleased with what we learned along the way. We became expert researchers by using all types of research tools including...encyclopedias, atlases, almanacs, globes, nonfiction books, computer databases, and the internet. We learned so much along the way ( teachers even gained new knowledge) and we are very appreciative of the time and effort that Terry Smith, the game moderator, put into the game to make it a success once again! Thank you Mr. Smith! Check out the Landmark website... http://www.kidlink.org/kidspace/start.php?HoldNode=27600&HoldNav=1430

Landmark 2009

Lewis and Clark students don't just read for fun, we read for information as well. Each year we participate in a challenging game called Landmark. Each team involved picks one landmark anywhere in the world and writes 9 clues to help all of the other teams research and figure out their landmark. We play with teams from all over the world and at all grade levels. As a teacher librarian, I love the research and problem solving skills used in this game as well as fostering teamwork, perseverance, and thinking outside the box. The students become so engaged that they even ask to search for landmarks at home! What more can you ask for, students begging to learn outside the school day!
