MASL 2016

The 2016 MASL (Missouri Association of School Librarians) Conference was one of the very best I have been to in a long time.  The featured speakers were great...especially Jennifer LaGarde (aka Library Girl).  Of course I follow her on Twitter and read her blog regularly, but I had never heard her speak before.  In short, she was PHENOMENAL!  I still find myself thinking about her talk! Fellow Liberty teacher-librarian Teresa Barnett and I presented a workshop entitled, Blending Your MakerSpace & Library Standards For Student Success .   Check it out if you are implementing a MakerSpace in your library or school. I also met author Tim Green and won an autographed copy of his book.  Obviously, I had to get a pic with him:). Plus, I was thrilled to hear David Shannon's presentation on his life as an author.  What an amazing storyteller he is!   Conferences are a great place to gather new ideas for programming and get a fresh new look ...

Roland Smith Author Visit

Each year LPS treats its readers to a extra special author visit.  Fourteen Lewis & Clark 5th graders who had read all 12 Mark Twain nominees traveled to Heritage Middle School to hear a presentation by the one and only Roland Smith! I am so proud of our readers who set a reading goal and met it.  We joined an auditorium full of other readers to hear all about Roland Smith's life and books.  We had a blast and really enjoyed getting books autographed.

Experiencing Henry Cole

On Friday, March 13th, thirteen 5th graders who had read all twelve 2014-2015 Mark Twain Nominees experienced an amazing author visit.  Author and illustrator Henry Cole amazed us all with his amazing storytelling skills, drawing expertise, and comical relief!  What a great event to end the week!  Way to read kiddos!

Dean Pitchford Author Visit

Author Dean Pitchford had my students on the edge of their seats as he shared his books!  What an amazing storyteller.  We were all so starstruck by this talented gentleman before he came and by the end of his visit, we were so excited about his books that they were all checked out by the beginning of the next day.  If you don't recognize his name, check out his website !  Here is a hint to the genius of this man...he wrote Footloose!!!   Thanks Dean for the fabulous visit and a very pleasant dinner.

Roland Smith Is Amazing!

On Monday, March 15th I took my own 3 kids to the Literature Festival in Warrensburg, Missouri. We had a great time seeing 4 great authors! We ALL especially loved the presentation by Roland Smith. I have seen him speak ten to fifteen times, but it never gets old. He is an amazing speaker and really captures the audiences' attention. My kids have been quoting him all week! You MUST check out his website. He writes a blog called, Roland's Journal that will grab your interest if you are keen on becoming a writer yourself. You can follow along as he blogs about his day...what he is writing, what is ready to be submitted, and so on. Check it out... http://www.rolandsmith.com/
