Each year we celebrate the amazing readers who reached the goal of reading all of the Mark Twain or GKCRead nominees!  Mrs. Haynes and I so appreciate Dr. Palmer and Mrs. Ferguson covering our lunch duties and our PTA for funding the pizza for readers.  Our kids really look forward to this day and we love seeing them having fun and enjoying lunch in the library.

Bringing a MakerSpace to our library has definitely changed the way we learn in our library.  But we continually strive for a balance of making, thinking, and reading.   Yes, we read!  We read visiting author books, we read books to help us as makers, we read holiday/seasonal books.  We read for information and we read for pleasure. Page Turner Book Club members read every Wednesday morning. Book clubs read with Mrs. Haynes at lunch and at the end of the day. Our school PTA gives books to kids on their birthdays. Our library has a Little Free Library where kids can take a book anytime they wish (even if they don't bring a book to swap). We have classroom checkout times scheduled and we have open access checkout so kids can come to the library every day if they wish...and some do. The 2014-2015 school year has come and gone so it is time to reflect on the year to appreciate what was successful and to determine what needs to be improved upon for next year.   Here we go... One hundred and five 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade readers celebrated reaching their first reading milestone of the 2012-2013 school year with milk and cookies.  Those kiddos have a great jumpstart on the reading award books for this year and are well on their way to reaching the second milestone in December.  Good Books!  Good Times!

Wow, forty five 3rd graders met my challenge to read ALL 26 A to Z Mysteries written by Ron Roy. We celebrated with a mystery party...the kids didn't know the day or time of the party. I can't reveal anything else or it won't be a mystery for next year's readers. Way to be independent readers !

Twenty Two 2nd graders met the challenge to read and report on 12 or more Caldecott winning books. We just had to celebrate...with milk and cookies of course. These great readers also picked out a free book to enjoy this summer. Way to be independent readers!

Seventy Nine 3rd, 4 th , and 5 th grade students celebrated achieving a reading challenge by enjoying yummy hot cocoa on a cold winter's day. To qualify, students read 8 or more KC3 or Mark Twain Nominees. We had a great time reading, chatting, and drinking cocoa. Check out our pics below... WAY TO GO LEWIS AND CLARK READERS!
