Hot Chocolate Bar Reading Celebration

On Thursday, January 18th SEVENTY FIVE 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade readers enjoyed delicious hot chocolate to celebrate their reading!  These readers all read AT LEAST 8 GKCRead or 8 Mark Twain nominees.  LC has amazing readers and outstanding teachers who all love to read for pleasure!   Way to read LC Blazers!

Over 25,000 Views

Several years ago I created a smore graphic to answer the questions of those wanting to bring a MakerSpace to their school.  This month, that smore has been viewed over 25,000 times.  WOW!  The maker movement is here and is not going away.  What a great way for kids to learn!

Library Leaders 2017-2018

These kiddos right here help make our library run smoothly on a weekly basis!  Pairs of kids come in daily to help shelve books, process magazines, wipe down tables and shelf markers, sharpen pencils, and basically do any job they are asked.  A HUGE thank you to these library leaders for all their work!

LCTV Broadcast Club 2017-2018

Last year I started a broadcast club for 3rd graders designed to share what is happening at LC with our students.  It also provides the members the opportunity to work on a deadline, write scripts, learn imovie, understand how a green screen works, improve speaking skills weekly, and work collaboratively to create a weekly broadcast. This year, nine new 3rd graders are working weekly to produce our broadcast.  Check out our broadcasts below and learn a bit about what happens at LC. Plus learn about the weekly weather and a new joke or two! Starting The Year Out Right...

with bright and shiny new books!   Good Books!  Good Times!

Published!

I had to take my daughter to Children's Mercy for an appointment and picked up KC Parent magazine to see my article in print.  Looks so much cooler in a magazine rather than just online.  Thanks for the opportunity KC Parent-taking risks is hard but so worth it.   I ask my students to try new things ALL THE TIME, I need to do the same!

Lego WeDo 2.0 + Coding = Brains and Creativity At Work

Our second graders spend the year focusing on robotics and coding.  We research and learn about how robots make work easier and safer for people today.  We have fun while learning with Dot and Dash and get our creative grove on while using the fun attachments with Dash.  Right now we are mixing our love of Legos, our knowledge of coding, and good old research to learn with Lego WeDo 2.0.  Today we built and programmed a satellite. Prior to our build we researched and learned all about satellites so we had a better understanding of what we were building. I love watching kids create, it is so interesting to see how their brains work.  There are kids who just naturally follow directions and complete the build and want to move on with the most basic of programs.  There are kids who come up with the most amazing, creative programs and spend a lot of time seeing what is possible with their build.  Then there are the kids who start trying to add on something interesting or see if they ca
