Bring On The 2017-2018 School Year!

So, I am beginning my 30th year of teaching!  I simply can't fathom that I have been teaching for that long or that I still love it as much as I did the very first year.  I love that each year is a fresh new beginning.  Here are a few pics showing what is new in the LC library this year...
Our theme for our Missouri reading award programs is Reading is My SuperPower!  Love these sunglasses that add a bit of pizzazz to our pictures.

We added several new titles to our collection of book sets for our Build A Book Club section.

After reading a GKCRead or Mark Twain Nominee, our readers have the opportunity to rate the books in order to help others decide if they should read it.

Our annual survey stated that LC students wanted more comfy seating.  Picked up these guys from IKEA.  The kiddos were pretty thrilled to see them.

Found this table on the side of the road.  Picked it up, primed it, painted it black, gave it a fun checkerboard top and turned it into a place to sit or work.

Our first display of the year.  Glass is open so kids can get books to checkout.

Our biggest change this year is welcoming our new ParaPro, Mrs. Winne.   So thrilled she is at LC and that she gets to spend her days with her own two kids.

My Last Post!

This will be my last post as a teacher-librarian for Liberty Public Schools.  After 30 years of teaching, I will be retiring at the end of this school year.  I will continue teaching next year at Kansas City International Academy.  I will totally be switching roles and can't wait to help middle school students work on their reading skills.  I have already started immersing myself in middle school reading by viewing webinars, rereading several books on the topics of reading and literacy ( The Cafe Book and The Daily 5 ),  and reading several new books that will help me manage the structure necessary for successful guided reading. On the other hand, I am also going full speed in the library as well.  We are ending the year by wrapping up Genius Hour projects, art bots, creating books on topics we are passionate about, introducing next year's Missouri award books, and getting summer reading off the ground so our LC kiddos keep on reading!  Several of us are also totally reva
